The mission of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is to prepare students to become osteopathic physicians, pharmacy practitioners, and dentists through programs of excellence in education, research, clinical care, and community service to enhance the quality of life through improved health for all humanity. The professional programs are dedicated to serve all students through innovative curriculum and the development of postdoctoral education and interprofessional experiences.

Educational Goals of the College of Osteopathic Medicine The primary goal of LECOM is to educate students to become physicians who practice within the osteopathic concept. Additionally, the college’s goal is to educate and develop primary care physicians who will practice in the osteopathic tradition. The college imparts to its students a firm academic background, enabling them to pursue advanced training in medical specialties within osteopathic medicine. The college encourages its students to participate in research and life-long learning to further advance his or her chosen profession.

Mission Statement of the School of Pharmacy The mission for the LECOM School of Pharmacy is to prepare pharmacy professionals committed to providing high-quality, ethical, and empathetic patient-centered pharmaceutical care to serve the needs of a diverse population via three education pathways: Accelerated Pathway, Florida Pathway, and Distance Education Pathway. Through the integration of the sciences with critical thinking skills and effective communication, LECOM will prepare future pharmacists to be strong patient advocates and leaders in their communities, in professional associations, and research activities.

Through the integration of scientific knowledge, critical thinking and effective communication skills, and an emphasis on best-practice use of technology, we will prepare future dentists to be quality care givers, strong patient advocates and leaders in their communities, professional associations and research activities.

Masters of Science in Biomedical Ethics (MSBE)The mission of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Master of Science in Biomedical Ethics (MSBE) program is to strive to move learners beyond knowledge acquisition and skills development to behavioral changes that result in the delivery of excellent patient-centered care focused on shared-decision making and patient choices. The program will be flexible and responsive to students’ needs, new challenges, and the evolving demands of healthcare education by readily developing and adding new curricular pieces and features to enhance current offerings as appropriate. The MSBE program will utilize innovative technology and an outcome based approach to keep students engaged and on track.

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) is a private graduate school of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy with a main campus in Erie, Pennsylvania, and branch campuses located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and Bradenton, Florida. Founded in 1992, LECOM confers degrees in osteopathic medicine (D.O.), pharmacy (PharmD), and dentistry (DMD), as well as master's degrees in Health Services Administration, Biomedical Sciences, and Medical Education. LECOM operates one of the few accelerated three-year pharmacy programs in the country, and is one of 2 pharmacy schools in the country with a distance education program.

With over 2,200 enrolled medical students, the College of Osteopathic Medicine at LECOM is the largest in the United States.

LECOM is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine was founded in 1992. The first courses began in 1993, and the inaugural class of students graduated in 1997. In 2002, the school of pharmacy opened.

In 2004, LECOM opened a branch campus in Bradenton, Florida, and in 2009 opened a new satellite campus in Greensburg, Pennsylvania at the site of Seton Hill University. In 2007, Lake Erie COM was the first US medical school to re-introduce a three-year medical school program, after the other 3 year programs in nation had closed. In 2012, the Bradenton campus opened a new dental school. In 2020, LECOM plans to open a new medical school campus in Elmira, New York.

The medical school at LECOM is the largest in the United States.

The college's total enrollment now exceeds 4100 students and has more than 11,000 alumni. LECOM is a member of the LECOM Health system, an academic health center with two hospitals, physician practices, two skilled nursing centers and three independent living centers for older adults.
