The Arkansas State Dental Association is a non-profit voluntary professional association of approximately 1,000 members. ASDA promotes continuing education and practice management courses for its members, lobbies their interests in both state and national politics and represents them at public and private health-related agency meetings and events.

The American Dental Association has been doing its part to combat the opioid crisis by informing dentists about how the drugs they prescribe in their offices can be potentially harmful. In a series of webinars, hosted by various speakers, dentists have learned about ways they can reduce opioid abuse, educate patients about the addictive qualities of painkillers, and preventing prescription opioid diversion.

The ASDA New Dentist Committee has just announced a new opportunity for colleagues – young and not-so-young – to share information to build healthier practices and lifestyles! If you would like to serve as a Mentor to a younger dentist, click on the Mentor Application link below. If you are a new dentist who would like some advice from time-to-time, please feel free to click on the New Dentist Mentee Application link below. Applicants will be sorted and assigned by the New Dentist Committee.

The Arkansas State Dental Association is a leader in the health care community with an effective outreach to ensure that its members have a collective and influential voice in state government. ASDA’s grassroots efforts have championed many political issues for its members, including issues related to water supply fluoridation, insurance coverage and scope of practice. The ASDA maintains constant vigilance to defeat harmful legislation and regulation, while working toward solutions to problems related to Medicaid, low-income access, auxiliary education and insurance reform.

ASDA applies the following core values, within the existing political climate of the legislature, to determine its advocacy strategy:

QUALITY: Ensure that the best and highest level of dentistry is provided in a clinically-appropriate setting by a team of trained professional led by the dentist. ACCESS: Belief that all Arkansans are entitled to the same quality of dental care regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographic location.

PREVENTION: Belief that it is far better to prevent disease rather than treat disease.
