About us

The mission of the NDBA is to provide for recognition of achievement in order to promote safe and effective patient care for all qualified dentists who have an interest in anesthesiology, sedation and the control of anxiety and pain. Achieving Diplomate Status assures the public you are committed to offering high quality anesthesia services to your patients. We encourage every eligible member of the ADSA to become a Diplomate of the NDBA. In addition to the annual fee, Diplomates must complete 12 hours of CE every two years.

How To Earn Diplomate Status

To become a Diplomate of the NDBA, one must pass a written examination, offered at each of ADSA's meetings: Chicago in December, Las Vegas in February and the ADSA Annual Session in April. The requirements to sit for the Exam are:

1. Active membership in the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

2. Graduation from a College of Dentistry accredited by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association or one approved by the Board of Directors of the ADSA.

3. Completion of: a. Continuous full-time participation in a Residency in Dental Anesthesiology Program acceptable to the ADSA Board of Directors, OR b. An accredited Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency. Exam applications must include documentation from the institution in which anesthesiology training was obtained, including start/completion dates.

4. In addition to the annual fee, Diplomates must participate in 12 hours of continuing education every two years.
