The professional organization of Periodontists in Kerala, SPIK was inaugurated on 28th January 2007 atThiruvananthapuram with Dr K.Nandakumar as the Charter President and Dr.Santhosh Sreedhar as the Charter Secretary. Into the 13th year of inception, the Society now has a strength of nearly 300 members including Life members and Associate members.

Through its various activities, the Society aims at the promotion, encouragement and advancement of the specialty of Periodontology and Implantology among its members, fellow specialties and the dental fraternity at large with the ultimate objective of improving the periodontal health in the society. SPIK organizes regular scientific activities pertaining to the current concepts in Periodontics and Implants. The annual post-graduate scientific convention provides the associate members an ideal platform for showcasing their academic, clinical and research talents.

The under-graduate scholarship exam started in 2013 is a unique flagship program, where the students are selected on the basis of an objective and systematic evaluation.The official publication of the Society, JSPIK is one of the very few peer-reviewed specialty journals in Periodontology in the country, which gives an opportunityto the members for publishing their valuable works. The observation of Oral Hygiene Day on August 1 is a program where SPIK tries to reach out to the public for creating awareness regarding periodontal diseases and the importance of their prevention.

Objectives

1.- Promotion, encouragement and advancement of Periodontology and Implantology.

2.- To protect the rights and interest of the members of Society and foster friendship, co-operation and co-existence among the members of the association.

3.- Hold scientific meetings, seminars and conferences for the members of the association.

4.- Encourage the members to under take measures for the improvement of public oral health and advancement of the science of Periodontology and Implantology in Kerala.

5.- To promote academic activities through the voluntary help at various Dental Institutions in Kerala.

6.- To create awareness and educate the public about Oral Hygiene.

7.- To propagate and work for the suitable public health awareness for the prevention of periodontal disease.

8.- Publish and circulate a journal which shall be the official organ of the association.
