The Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC)

The Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) was established by an Act of the Federal Government of Canada in 1965 to promote the high standards of specialization in the dental profession and to recognize properly trained dental specialists. This is accomplished through examinations created specifically for each dental specialty.

The mission of The Royal College of Dentists of Canada is to be the leader in defining, recognizing and promoting excellence in the dental specialties. The Royal College of Dentists of Canada’s main objectives are:

To promote high standards of specialization in the dental profession. To set up qualifications for and provide for the recognition and designation of properly trained dental specialists. To encourage the establishment of training programs in the dental specialties in Canadian schools; and To provide for the recognition and designation of dentists who possess special qualifications in areas not recognized as specialties.

The Royal College of Dentists of Canada is not an educational institution, nor a licensing body, and does not provide any form of dental training or courses.

These organizations are able to advise potential candidates of the particular requirements for licensure within each province.

The Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC; French: Collège royal des chirurgiens dentistes du Canada) is a regulatory college which administers examinations for qualified dental specialists as part of the dentistry profession in Canada. Its headquarters are in Toronto.

The RCDC was established federally in 1965 to promote high standards of specialization in the dental profession and to recognize properly trained dental specialists. The current examinations are known as the National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE). Successful completion may lead to Fellowship in the College (FRCDC).
