The main aim of the graduate program in dentistry is to develop a scientific spirit in students and allow them to become familiar with the latest information in the various areas covered by the program (cariology; pharmacology, anesthesiology and therapeutics; oral physiology; pediatric dentistry; and collective health) so that they are able to adopt a critical attitude to research and teaching activities.

The Graduation activities of Piracicaba Dental School started in 1962 with the Graduate Program of Orthodontics. At that time, Piracicaba Dental School was an isolated Institute of School of São Paulo State, and the Program did not offer a Master's degree. It was a specialization course, composed of 5 dentists, with no teaching responsability. Only from 1969, through the approval of UNICAMP Board of Directors, the Program obtained a Master's level, demanding from the students the elaboration of a Master's dissertation, in parallel to the course activities. In 1974, the Program was accredited by the Federal Council of Education, through the legal report 3733/74.

With the implementation of the University Reform in the early 70's and the support from the government sectors to the development of the Brazilian Graduation, Piracicaba Dental School has amplified the Graduation Programs.

Moreover, in 1973, the Pharmacology area offered the Graduate Program called Clinical Applied Pharmacology. After five years forming Masters, the referred Program was restructured, changing its name to Pharmacological Bases for the Therapeutic Medicine.

In the following year of 1974, another important Program in the area of basic Dentistry, called Morphology and Oral Biology, was created. In 1978, the Pathology area was incorporated, being called afterwards as Biology and Oral Pathology.

Only from 1983, the Programs of Pharmacological Bases for the Therapeutic Medicine and Biology and Oral Pathology extended their activities to the Doctor's level. In this same year, two more Programs were created, both at a Master's level called: Dental Materials and Dental Radiology. These two programs began to provide the Doctor's degree in 1993 and 1994, respectively.

In 1989, a Graduate Program in Physiology of the Stomatognathic System was created at a Master’s level, and it was merged in 1999 with the Graduate Program in Pharmacological Bases for the Therapeutic Medicine, being called as Graduate Program in Dentistry, with three concentration areas: Cariology, Oral Physiology and Pharmacology, Anesthesiology, and Therapeutics.

In 1990, the Program of Legal Dentistry and Deontology was created at a Master’s level, being the first in this field in Brazil and South America. In March of 1995, it extended the activities to the Doctor’s level.

In 1993, the Graduate Program of Dental Clinic was initiated at Master’s and Doctor’s level, with five concentration areas: Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Traumatology, Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics, Periodontics and Dental Prosthesis.

In 1999, as required by the Congregation of Piracicaba Dental School, and according to the CCPG 82/99 and CONSU A-19 of 27/07/99 deliberations, a new structure for the Graduate Programs was approved, and the Graduate Program in Estomatopatologia was created, at a Master's and Doctor's level. In 2003, the creation of another concentration area (Pediatric Dentistry) in the Dentistry Graduate Program was approved.

In 2004, the Orthodontics Program became an area of concentration of the Radiology Graduate Program. As early as in 2005, the creation of another area of concentration (Public Health) in the Dentistry Graduate Program.

In 2007, the Legal Dentistry and Deontology Graduate Program became an area of concentration of the Dental Biology Graduate Program. From 2010, the Orthodontics area of concentration was no longer part of the Dental Radiology Program.
